A stick

The oscillating, overlooked, forgotten yet fixed subject might represent a period or a role. For people always situated in specific spacetime, these unique life experiences will inspire thoughts of different levels and directions.

A Stick also embodies a Duchamp-like humor, that is, mocking utility and the “serious attitude” ([2] (France) Cabane. Duchamp Interview [M]. Wang Ruiyun. Guangxi Normal University Press, 2001: 251.).

Categorizingabsurdity as an anomaly does not make one feel better. On the contrary, treating absurd things seriously intensifies the mockery. When people performrepetitive mechanical actions spontaneously and normal life starts to beaffected, they are considered mad, or at least mentally unwell. However,so-called “fools” were once seen positively in medieval Western Europe. Untilthe development of modern society, insane asylums were invented, and “fools” became outcasts. Behind the definitivelabeling is a form of power. The stick in the artwork reflects individualpowerlessness from a macro perspective, and the self-mocking becomes aretaliation against individual impotence.
